Baby was baptised on 6th December 2008. It was a simple ceremony and the only important person missing was Anoop achachen, my brother. Unlike his brother Tarun, who cried from the moment of entry into church, Abhinav never cried. Even when his lower body was immersed in the baptism tub, he never cried.(My dad the told me that the water they used was warmed slightly :)) His bawling started only when the priest poured the water on his head. All went on fine, baby fell asleep after a feed and all the guests had dinner.

Congratulations! We have one more added to the family of God.
Dec 6th is my brother's birthday ;)
BTW, what is the emphasis of baby baptism in your church? We do not practice immersion baptism, and our baby baptism is also for the parents to bring the child up in Christ.
Thank you so much Pearlie..
For us christians from Kerala.. baptism is a Sacrament. There is not too much immersion. The baby is dipped waist downwards, and water sprinkled on his head. For us we believe that the baby is brought into the folds of the church and christanity, and the baptism symbolizes his becoming a ''christian'' and from then on , its the responsibility of the parents to bring up the child in Christ.
Its a small ceremony by itself. It starts off with the thankgiving to God, for the mother's health and safe delivery of the child. Then the affirmation of faith and the parents saying before God that they will bring up the child the Christian way, then the child's godfather, placing his hand on the child's head saying that he too will bring up the child the Christian way, and finally the immersion.
The pentecostal church practices the complete immersion for new believers and also that they baptise their members only when they reach adolescence.
Are you marthomite or jacobite? I prefer the CSI christenings. They gently sprinkle some water on the baby's head. So Adiv enjoyed his baptism:)
Beautiful Anooja - it's wonderful to know your son is being brought up in God's family!
Baptism... its one sacrament I like in the church... coz it gets over so fast....:D
I think the "God parent" stuff is a beautiful concept. May not be so relevant today with rising life expectancy, but I still like it for what it stands. A great and unique tradition!
